9. Particle size distribution of kaolin

Particle size distribution refers to the proportion of particles in natural kaolin in a given continuous range of different particle sizes (expressed as meshes of millimeter or micrometer sieve holes) (expressed as percentage content). The particle size distribution of kaolin is of great significance to the mineral separability and technological application. Its particle size has great influence on its plasticity, slurry viscosity, ion exchange capacity, moulding performance, drying performance and firing performance. Kaolin ore needs to be processed technically. Whether it is easy to process to the required fineness has become one of the criteria for evaluating ore quality. All industrial departments have specific granularity and fineness requirements for kaolin for different purposes. For example, in the United States, the content of kaolin less than 2 microns is 90-95% and the filler less than 2 microns is 78-80%.
