10. Plasticity of Kaolin

The clay formed by the combination of kaolin and water can deform under the action of external force, and after the removal of external force, it can still maintain the nature of this deformation, that is, plasticity. Plasticity is the basis of forming process of kaolin in ceramic body, and also the main technical index. Plasticity index and plasticity index are usually used to express the plasticity. Plasticity index refers to the liquid limit moisture content of kaolin mud minus plastic limit moisture content, expressed in percentage, namely W plasticity index = 100 (W liquid limit - W plastic limit). Plasticity index represents the moulding performance of kaolin clay. The load and deformation of clay balls during crushing under compression can be measured directly by plasticity instrument. The higher the plasticity index is, the better the moulding performance will be. The plasticity of kaolin can be divided into four grades.

Plasticity index plasticity index of plasticity strength

Strong plasticity > 153.6

Plasticity 7-152.5-3.6

Weak plasticity 1-7 < 2.5

Non-plasticity < 1
